Design Tips

Bathroom

In larger bathrooms, it may be necessary to provide separate lighting for the vanity, bath, shower and common areas. Smaller bathrooms may have enough light from a single horizontal light over the mirror. Directional spots over a mirror tend to create glare and  deep shadows in your reflection.

The optimum lighting for your vanity is wall sconces either side of the mirror, centered approximately six feet from the floor. Sconce

s provide, variously, downlight, a combination of downlight and uplight, or may have some light radiating directy out into the room. If there is room for only one fixture above the mirror, utilize one with lights shining upward so that light reflects from the ceiling for a more uniform, more flattering light.
