Design Tips
Bedroom
Centrally located flush mounted fixtures are the best option for general lighting. Larger bedrooms will need further floor and table lamps at the bedside or in sitting and dressing areas. Lamps on bedside tables should have sufficient height to bottom of shade so that the light floods down over the shoulder when the reader has taken the lounging position. Boudoir lamps totalling 14 inches or less in height are more appropriate for side chests. When surface area of bedside tables is at a premium, swing arm lamps can be mounted either side of the bed. They can be hard-wired with switches/dimmers on the fixture and/or at a convenient location elsewhere in the bedroom. Solid metal shades on swing arms allow one partner to focus light directly on reading material without bothersome spill to the other side.
